<\/p>

The Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy (FDMS) is a social protection programme which is in place to mitigate against incessant food deficits that are attributed primarily to climate change, pandemics and other natural disasters. In addition, changes in the country’s socio-economic context present new challenges that also impacts negatively on the household food security. FDMS is implemented in line with the provisions of the National Development Strategy 1, 2021- 2025, which aims at ensuring improved access to inclusive social protection targeting to assist at least 65% of the vulnerable population with social protection.<\/p>

  • \u00a0To mitigate the effects of drought and other shocks on food insecure non-labour constrained households through public works and food for asset programs for resilience building.<\/li>
  • To avail adequate and nutritious food to the food insecure labour- constrained households (older person headed households, child headed households, chronically ill, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) family headed households with high dependency ratio).<\/li>
  • To increase access to markets for non\u2013resource constrained households through improved market distribution.<\/li>
  • To reduce the impact of future droughts and other shocks\/hazards through the adoption of climate smart agriculture, environmental protection initiatives and other sustainable livelihood projects in partnership with relevant stakeholders.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Geographic targeting at national level Geographic\/district targeting for FDMS is guided by result of the national assessments conducted by the Zimbabwe Livelihood Assessment Committee (ZimLAC), triangulated with information from district profiles, poverty assessments, the Consolidated Approach of Reporting Indicators for food security (CARI), and other relevant secondary information such as the Crop and Livestock Assessments. In a year where ZimLAC conducts an Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) Analysis, the findings can also be used to triangulate ZimLAC results. The ZimLAC determine the current rural population that is food insecure and projects the likely progression of food insecurity by district and number of people per consumption year. This includes spatial and temporal distribution as well as severity of food insecurity by quarter.<\/p>\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
